Since YMCA Camp Cherokee began in 1945, our goal has been to provide a safe, caring environment that opens doors for campers to discover their God-given potential and form friendships that will continue to strengthen them. When you give the gift of Camp, you are not only giving a child a chance to enjoy all the thrills of Cherokee, but you are also providing them with a character building experience that will last a lifetime.

In 2014, friends of YMCA Camp Cherokee have helped over 80 children attend camp through our financial assistance program.

Take for instance Paul Bartolotta. Paul moved from New York to South Carolina when he was eight years old. He had lost his father to a hard fought battle with cancer, and he and his mother worked hard to make ends meet. Paul had a hard time fitting in with his new peers at school, and to his own admission, was socially awkward and bullied for his weight and appearance. Paul was offered a scholarship to attend YMCA Camp Cherokee. He was a little nervous about leaving his mother, but they were both excited about the opportunity.  That week of camp changed Paul’s life. He has attended Cherokee every year since and has been on staff for four years. Paul is currently attending college. He states, “Because of Cherokee, I am more confident and outgoing, and I’m on the right track for great things!”

We’re more than a place, we’re a cause. YMCA Camp Cherokee strengthens all those who enter the gates through programs and services focused on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. Please contribute today.
